Wry Neck
Have you ever woken up one morning and felt like your neck was stuck in one position? Did you feel like any movement was impossible because it just hurt too much to move? There is a good chance that what you’ve experienced is called torticollis, otherwise more commonly known as a wry neck.
Wry neck is a condition that can happen to anybody out of the blue and is often associated with pain and stiffness primarily on one side of the neck. You may also experience tight muscle tightness or spasms on the painful side as well.
There are many reasons as to why you may suffer from a wry neck, however the single most common reason is sleeping with your neck in an awkward or unfamiliar position. This can cause the joints in your neck to become irritated and as a result cause stiffness, pain and spasm throughout the neck.
Typically, most cases of wry neck resolve quite quickly from over a few days to a week. Using a heat pack and taking anti-inflammatories may provide you with some short term pain relief.
